"Cerclomania", or the development of associations in Nantes at the beginning of the Third Republic
La « Cerclomanie », ou l'efflorescence associative à Nantes au début de la Troisième République
Résumé
At the end of the 19th century, Nantes experienced a boom in the number of associations, in line with what was happening in France and Europe at the time. The study of this development allows us to draw up a panorama of the associative world in Nantes from the Revolution to the Great War and to ask ourselves the question of the factors specific to the territory studied. Finally, it aims to highlight the cultural associations, with a view to a more in-depth analysis of the artistic society Le Clou, which was active in Nantes between 1884 and 1912.
A la fin du XIXe siècle, Nantes connaît un essor associatif, à l'image de ce qui se passe alors en France et en Europe. L'étude de cet essor permet de dresser un panorama du monde associatif à Nantes de la Révolution à la Grande Guerre et de se poser la question des facteurs propres au territoire étudié. Elle vise enfin à mettre en valeur les associations culturelles, dans la perspective d'une analyse plus approfondie de la société artistique et littéraire le Clou, active à Nantes entre 1884 et 1912.
