Abstract
In 1715, Louis XV's education was torn between the wish to carry out the instructions Louis XIV had left in his will for his great grandson, the vested interests of princes, dukes and peers who were eager to find a place against Louis XIV's illegitimate children who were given a rank in the line of succession to the throne and to the superintendency of Louis XV's education and finally the position of the Prince Regent who, with the men selected by Louis XIV, suggested a pragmatic solution to train the five-year-old Louis XV to become a king. However, his education took a modern turn in less than ten years and was adapted to the new era: while the history of France seemed inadequate to provide him with governance lessons, new subjects and knowledge were emerging.
